The Team

Tim Kiska – Editor

Tim Kiska is a veteran Detroit journalist and historian. He has directed election night projections for virtually every statewide and city of Detroit election between 1974 and 2016. A professor at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, he has worked in journalism at the Detroit Free Press (1970-1987), Detroit News (1987-2002) and WWJ-AM, the CBS-owned all-news radio station. He earned his PhD in history at Wayne State University in 2003, two years after joining the UM-D faculty

Eric Kiska – Social Media, Managing Editor

Born in Detroit, MI, Eric Kiska is a musician, writer, and lover of the outdoors. Eric graduated with a Bachelors of Science in English Writing and a minor in Art Design from Northern Michigan University in 2014. Shortly after he had a part-time column for the Motor City Muckraker focusing on music around Detroit. He has also done freelance video editing for Detroit Public TV’s mivote.org, and helped raised $21,000 for the “BC Surgery Stories” kickstarter campaign by editing the kickstarter video and assisting in social media promotions. Eric is now a mail carrier in Sterling Heights, MI while continuing to pursue a career in writing.

Claudia Walters – Cartographer, Editor

Claudia K. Walters is a collegiate lecturer of geography in the Department of Social Sciences and the GIS Advocate for the College of Arts, Sciences and Letters at UM-Dearborn. She earned her Ph.D. in Geography from Michigan State University in 1997, and a GIS Certificate for Professionals from Penn State University in 2017. She has been a lecturer at UM-Dearborn since 2001, specializing in climatology, physical geography, cartography, and GIS.

Jacob Yesh-Brochstein – Web Developer, Editor

Jacob Yesh-Brochstein is a student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He currently manages data for the Urban Praxis Workshop and this website. In his spare time, he is involved in Detroit Eviction Defense, Amnesty International, and the Southeast Michigan Land Conservancy.

Sarah Martin – Editor

Sarah Martin is a senior at the University of Michigan-Dearborn pursuing a degree in Journalism and Screen Studies with a minor in Psychology. She completed an internship at Henry Ford Health System in Marketing, assisting with web content, social media, and events. Sarah has worked at the Michigan Journal as its News and Copy Editor, and has assisted Tim Kiska with the 2016 Michigan Primary at Channel 7 in Southfield, and the 2016 Presidential Election at the Detroit Free Press.
